“The Church today has a severe case of spiritual anemia because we’re trying to live week by week on “Simple Simon’s Sample Sermons:” or “Educated Edward’s Erudite Expositions.” It seems strange so many pastors and teachers are caught up in fund raising, program promoting and building while the men of the first century clearly stated: “But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the Word.” (Acts 6:4) For them it was priority; for us the Word is secondary. Is it any wonder we are so weak and sickly in the faith?
The ministry of the Word must be restored. Those who are called as instructors in the Body of Christ must give themselves to teaching the Word while allowing others to shoulder the organizational and administrative responsibilities. If God has called you to minister the Word, then minister the Word! Give yourself to it and allow nothing to detour your action and siphon your strength. Never minimize time spent in teaching people about God. Where the ministry of the Word is weak the Church is weak. Where the ministry of the Word is Alive and strong, the Church is alive and strong.”
